The Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education

The Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education was formed in 2004 by members of the Xi Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to increase its commitment to the Arlington community with educational and scholarship opportunities. The Foundation also sponsors numerous activities that benefit the community.

The Foundation sponsors or co-sponsors various activities on an annual basis that impact the Arlington community, to include:


  • The Family Expo – Annual event structured to give the members of the Arlington community a forum to increase their knowledge of wealth building, home buying, health issues, entrepreneurship opportunities, and educational advancement through various workshops and vendors. This event is sponsored in conjunction with the Xi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

  • Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley Spirit of Achievement Scholarship – Annual scholarship awarded to a young lady who is a senior in high school within Tarrant County, exhibits high scholastic standards and leadership qualities, and plans to attend a college or university.

  • Elzie Odom Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship – Annual scholarship awarded each year to a young man, who is senior in high school within Tarrant County, exhibits high scholastic standards and leadership qualities and plans to attend a college or university.

  • YES! (Youth Education Success) Summit - An annual event sponsored in conjunction with the Xi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the University of Texas at Arlington, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and many other community service organizations. The Youth Summit is designed to expose today’s youth (7th-12th grades) in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to education, college preparation, and leadership skills through interactive workshops and self-assessment tools.

  • Scholarship Ball and Debutante Presentation – This signature event of the Foundation, in partnership with the Xi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., provides young ladies who are seniors in high school with college scholarships and opportunities to develop and grow through workshops that push them to become young women who will go into society and make a difference.

  • Masquerade Ball – This signature event of the Foundation, in partnership with the Xi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., honoring local community leaders and raising scholarship funds for local students. The event includes a lavish buffet, raffles, dancing, door prizes, live music and networking!
